Jennifer Anderson, Vice President
Jennifer Anderson is a Shreveport native and an Ascension parent. She and her husband attend First Baptist Church with their three children.
In 1995, Jennifer received a B.F.A. from Baylor University, double majoring in painting and graphic design. Following college, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked as a graphic designer at a distinguished creative design firm. During her second year, Jennifer was promoted to art director. Although she valued her career in advertising, she decided to follow her passion of painting moving to New York City in 1998 to study under Frank Mason at the Art Students League of New York. Jennifer spent the next eight years studying classical painting with Mr. Mason, a contemporary master of Dutch portrait and plein air painting. During that time, she also spent several months in Washington, D.C. under the instruction of Robert Liberace at the Art League School.
Jennifer is the owner of J. Anderson Design. She continues her career in painting and design, as well as teaching art at Ascension.
Ann Burford, Secretary
Ann Burford is an Ascension parent. She attends Calvary Chapel Shreveport, where she serves as Coordinator of Women's Ministry.
Ann graduated from Mercyhurst University with a Bachelor of Arts in art therapy and went on to get a Master’s of Science in School Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Before moving to Shreveport she worked for the Kitsap County School District in Washington as a school counselor and then for the Resources for Students with Autism Department in the San Diego Unified School District.
Howard Davis is a founding board member of Ascension Classical School. After a successful venture in starting Providence Classical Academy, significant interest arose in starting a Christ-centered Classical school in South Shreveport. Howard gave leadership to that effort in helping to found Ascension Classical School.
Howard grew up in small town in Mississippi where he graduated as a National Merit Scholar before attending Baylor University where he finished at the top of his class with a BBA in Accounting and Economics.
Howard is headmaster of Providence Classical Academy in Bossier and serves as associate pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church of Shreveport. He has five daughters: Ellie, Anna, Rachel, Haven, and Catherine.
Alex Burke was part of the original group working to bring a Classical Christian school in South Shreveport. He served in various ways during those initial years to promote and establish Ascension Classical School.
Alex graduated Denton High School in 2002 before attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Creative Writing.
Alex works at Calumet Specialty Products Partners as a Crude Oil Buyer. He and his wife, Suzanne, are active members of Grace Presbyterian Church where Alex serves as a Ruling Elder. They have three sons.

Ex oficio members are those who have served previously but have suspended their vote due to conflicts of interest related to staffing or other reasons.
Dena Howard graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University and a Master of Education from Centenary College. Later she completed her Ancillary Counselor K12 Certification at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. She worked in Caddo Parish Public Schools as an elementary teacher for 13 years and as a school counselor for 10 years. Dena retired from the public school system in 2014 and began working at Norris Ferry Community Church as the Children’s Minister. Dena is married to Jeff Howard and they have two sons, Tyler and Matthew.
Chris Burford and his wife, Ann, are the proud parents of Max, a very energetic student at our school. Chris retired from the US Navy in 2005 after 22 years of service. He was first a Navy Deep Sea Diver and through the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program, earned his BS in Nursing from Northwestern State University. After graduation, he was commissioned as a Naval Officer and served the remainder of his time as a registered nurse.
In the 10 years since retirement he and Ann have served at Calvary Chapel Shreveport as the church grew from a coffee shop with less than 10 members to our current location on Line Ave. He served as an elder at the church during a time of search and acquisition of the current facility. He has also served as head of Missions and the Men’s Ministry.
He currently works as an ICU Nurse at University Health and has been accepted to Nursing Anesthesia School slated to start in the Fall of 2016. He is humbled, honored and proud to be on the board and to be a part of an organization that synthesizes so many of his personal passions of Christianity, education, patriotism and passing on to the next generation the values and beliefs of those who have gone before us and paved the way for our success.
